The Qualitive Reading Inventory-5 is an individually administered informal reading inventory used to determine a student’s level of reading and comprehension. The assessment consists of grade leveled word lists and narrative and expository passages. There are a few parts to this assessment, so that a student’s reading ability can be determined most accurately. This assessment can determine a child’s independent, instructional, and frustration reading level. As educators, it is important to determine students’ instructional level, so that we can select appropriate level books for literacy circles and reading workshops, to design and evaluate intervention instruction, and to assess students’ progress. DIBELS is a reading assessment that is researched based, that assesses the early literacy and reading skills of young students.
