RTI is an approach used to identify students with learning disabilities, in order to implement appropriate support and interventions to help them succeed. RTI ensures that no child slips through the cracks. It provides all students with appropriate and effective interventions, which will give them the skills they need to become more accurate and fluent readers. The RTI approach consists of 3 Tiers. In Tier 1, all students receive high quality, intense phonics instruction. The general ed teacher implements differentiated instruction, so that all students can learn and be apart. This literacy instruction works for 80-85% of students. If students are not succeeding in their reading and require additional help, Tier 2 intervention is employed.
