Week 3 Assignment 3

What is QRI5?
The Qualitive Reading Inventory-5 is an individually administered informal reading inventory that provides information about conditions in which a student can identify words and comprehend text successfully or not. The assessment consists of grade leveled word lists and narrative and expository passages. There are a few parts to this assessment, so that a student’s reading ability can be determined most accurately.

What is the purpose of using QRI5?
The QRI-5 assessment can be used to examine students reading levels, to group students for guided reading sessions, to choose appropriate level books for literacy circles, reading workshops, and independent reading, to design and evaluate intervention instruction, and to document student growth.

Have you seen similar assessment activities like QRI5? What are they?
The Running Record is a similar type of assessment that can determine students’ reading levels and the area of reading they are struggling in. However, the QRI-5 is more detailed and provides more information, making it easier to pinpoint a student’s reading level and difficulties more accurately.

What is your impression of QRI5?
QRI-5 seems like a detailed and precise assessment plan that examines all areas of reading. The wide range of assessment material, on all grade levels, makes it easier to identify the specific areas in which a student is having difficulty in, so that they can help them in the best way possible. I hope to learn more about the QRI-5 in this course, and to implement it into my classroom.
